maybe (adv., n.), may be (v., aux.)
 
 
Maybe, an adverb meaning “perhaps,” is Standard (Maybe she’ll come anyway), even though some argue that perhaps sounds more cultivated. Maybe is also a Conversational and Informal noun (No maybes, now; you must come!). The auxiliary and verb are always spelled as two words (She may be on her way already), the adverb and noun as one.  1
