QUOTATION:Logic, reason, disease, and the menace of death, these things meant nothing at all to us. We were committed to other values by which the poet has always lived in defiance of all that society demanded of him.
ATTRIBUTION:Kay Boyle (1903–1993), U.S. author. Being Geniuses Together, “Kay Boyle: 1926-1928” chapter (1968).

Of her life in France in 1926 with Ernest Walsh, expatriate editor of the important literary magazine This Quarter. They were living together in poverty; Walsh was dying of the tuberculosis to which he succumbed that October, at age thirty-one; and Boyle, still married to another man, was expecting Walsh’s baby, who was born after his death.
