QUOTATION:I just come and talk to the plants, really—very important to talk to them, they respond I find.
ATTRIBUTION:Charles, Prince Of Wales (b. 1948). television interview, Sept. 21, 1986. quoted in Daily Telegraph (London, Dec. 22, 1986).

Charles’s half-joking remark helped to establish his reputation as a new-age eccentric. Responding humorously to this, he was later quoted as saying, “Only the other day I was inquiring of an entire bed of old-fashioned roses, forced to listen to my ramblings on the meaning of the universe as I sat cross-legged in the lotus position in front of them.” (Daily Telegraph, Nov. 15, 1988).
