Wace, Alan John Bayard
 
 
1879–1957, English archaeologist. From 1914 to 1923 he was director of the British School at Athens. He served as professor of classical archaeology at Cambridge (1934–44) and at Farouk I Univ., Alexandria (1943–52). Wace excavated at Sparta, Mycenae, Troy, Thessaly, Corinth, and Alexandria. His writings include Prehistoric Thessaly (1912); Mycenae, an Archaeological History and Guide (1949); and A Companion to Homer (1962).
