| or Thorshavn (both: tôrs´´houn´) (KEY) , city (1998 est. pop. 16,095), capital of the Faeroe Islands, on SE Streymoy Island, Denmark. It is the commercial and shipping center of the Faeroe Islands and is also a major fishing port. The city has fish-processing plants, a shipyard, and produces woolen products. Tórshavn was probably founded in the 10th cent. During World War II it was occupied by the British (194245). |
