(s r ´n k) (KEY) , arm of the Aegean Sea, indenting SE Greece and separated from the Gulf of Corinth by the Isthmus of Corinth. The Saronic Gulf is the eastern terminus of the Corinth Canal, which cuts across the isthmus. Athens, Piraiévs, Elevsís, and Mégara are on or near the gulf, which also contains many islands, notably Aegina and Salamís. It is also known as the Gulf of Aegina. |
