(r zh) (KEY) , city (1990 pop. 11,314), Wayne co., SE Mich., an industrial suburb of Detroit, on the Detroit and Rouge rivers; settled c.1817, inc. 1899. It is a port of entry, with automobile, shipbuilding, and marine engineering industries. Steel and paper products are also manufactured. The city grew in the 1920s with the expansion of the Ford Motor Company in the area; however, River Rouge and its automobile industry suffered in the late 20th cent. |
