(zhôz f´ r näk´) (KEY) , 18561921, French publicist and lawyer. An associate of Léon Gambetta, he waged (1889) a campaign against General Boulanger in the journal République française. He was elected a deputy in the same year, but lost his seat in 1898 as a result of his pro-Dreyfus campaign (which was the more courageous because Reinach himself was a Jew) in the Dreyfus Affair. He was again a deputy from 1906 to 1914. During World War I he wrote widely praised military articles for Le Figaro. He also wrote Histoire de laffaire Dreyfus (7 vol., 190111). |
