Mazo, Juan Bautista Martínez del

(hwän bouts´tä märt´nth dl mä´th) (KEY) , c.1612–1667, Spanish portrait and landscape painter. He was the pupil and son-in-law of Velázquez, with whom he lived and collaborated and whom he succeeded in 1661 as first court painter to Philip IV. There are few extant paintings that scholars agree are his. These include View of Zaragoza (1647, Prado); Portrait of Queen Mariana (1666, National Gall., London); and Mazo’s Family (Vienna).
