Marianus Scotus, d. 1088, Irish churchman
d. 1088, Irish churchman, whose Gaelic name was Muiredach. He left Ireland in 1067 on a pilgrimage to Rome but settled permanently at Regensburg (Ratisbon), Germany, where he became abbot. He was famous for his calligraphic copies of parts of the Bible, which were usually accompanied by his commentaries.
