Manteuffel, Edwin, Freiherr von
(t´vn fr´hr fn män´toifl) (KEY) , 180985, Prussian field marshal. He served in the Danish War (1864) and was appointed Prussian governor in conquered Schleswig. In the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 he commanded brilliantly, and in the Franco-Prussian War (187071) he distinguished himself. Manteuffel commanded (187173) the German army of occupation in France and from 1879 until his death was governor of Alsace-Lorraine.
