(l d´ l) (KEY) , 181198, English classical scholar. He was headmaster (184655) of Westminster School and dean (185591) of Christ Church, Oxford. Liddell is famous for his compilation of the Greek-English Lexicon (with Robert Scott, 1843). It was his daughter, Alice Liddell (d. 1934), for whom Lewis Carroll wrote Alices Adventures in Wonderland. |
