Lee of Fareham, Arthur Hamilton Lee, 1st Viscount
 
 
(fâr´m) (KEY) , 1868–1947, British politician. He was (1900–1918) a Conservative member of the House of Commons. During World War I, Lee was military secretary to David Lloyd George (1916) and director-general of food production (1917–18). He was later minister of agriculture (1919–21), first lord of the admiralty (1921–22), and a delegate to the Washington Naval Conference (1921–22). He was raised to the peerage in 1918. In 1921 he presented Chequers, his estate, to the nation as a country residence for the prime minister.
