Knickerbocker
 
 
(nrbk´´r) (KEY) , term used almost synonymously with the adjective “Dutch” in respect to Dutch families and customs and the Dutch region of early New York state. A History of New York (1809), written by Washington Irving under the pseudonym Diedrich Knickerbocker, popularized the term. There was an actual Knickerbocker family that came from Holland c.1674 and lived chiefly in Albany co.
