(nysh´nz) (KEY) , mountain range, stretching c.800 mi (1,290 km) through the Arctic Archipelago, Northwest Territories and Nunavut, N Canada. Largely unexplored, the range runs NE from the Queen Elizabeth Islands to N Ellesmere Island, then south along the island’s east coast. It rises to c.9,000 ft (2,740 m) on Ellesmere Island, where most of the range is covered by an ice cap. The Innuitians form the northern rim of the Canadian Shield.
