Hesdin, Jacquemart de

(zhäkmär´ d dN´) (KEY) , fl. c.1384–1411, Franco-Flemish manuscript illuminator. Jacquemart illustrated numerous books of hours, including a number of manuscripts for Jean, duc de Berry. Influenced by Sienese painting, his illuminations included elaborate architectural interiors used to place figures in a believable space. Jacquemart is notable also for his marginalia—fanciful foliage and animal shapes forming a sort of frame to encompass the manuscript page.
