| 18961953, Canadian political leader. A member of the House of Commons (192634), he was chosen (1930) leader of the Liberal party in Ontario and became (1934) premier of the province. Several years later, he became involved in struggles with labor organizations and with Mackenzie King and his Liberal administration, which caused a split in the Liberal party.
