| town (1991 pop. 51,667), South Lanarkshire, S central Scotland, near the confluence of the Avon and the Clyde rivers. Once known for its coal mining, Hamiltons industries have developed to include light engineering, textiles, and food processing. It is also a market town for fruits, vegetables, and dairy goods. |
