Giner de los Ríos, Francisco

(fränths´k hnr´ d ls r´s) (KEY) , 1839–1915, Spanish educator and philosopher. He founded the Institución Libre de Enseñanza, a school that sought to develop a spirit of inquiry in its students; it did much to reform teaching methods in Spain and to shape liberal politics there. In his work on the philosophy of law Giner attempted to reconcile positivist and rationalist trends. His collected works (1916–27) total 18 volumes.
