(h ´´ r ´nüm s m´z r) (KEY) , 14771527, German Roman Catholic theologian. He was secretary to the elector of Saxony and urged reform of clerical abuse. In 1519 his enmity with Luther began; he and Luther indulged in the most violent invective, mainly on the subject of Luthers translation of the New Testament. Emser published his own translation in 1527. |
