A Huguenot soldier under Henry IV, Du Bartas is known chiefly for his epic poems La Sepmaine; ou, Creation du monde (1578) and the unfinished La Seconde Sepmaine (1584). In lofty verse they retell the main events of the Bible from a Protestant viewpoint. |
