Cannae

(k) (KEY) , ancient village, Apulia, SE Italy, scene in 216 B.C. of Hannibal’s crushing defeat of the Romans. Hannibal’s troops assumed a crescent-shaped formation to meet the Roman troops, which were especially concentrated in the center.
