| 1930, American educator and university president, b. Bryn Mawr, Pa., grad. Stanford (B.A., 1951) and Harvard (LL.B., 1954). A professor of law at Harvard from 1958, he served as dean of the law school (196871), president of the university (197191), and interim president (20067). He is author of Labor and the American Community (1970), Beyond the Ivory Tower (1984), The State of the Nation (1997), The Trouble with Government (2001), and Universities in the Marketplace (2003). |
