(btôn´t) (KEY) , city (1991 pop. 53,772), Apulia, S Italy. It is an agricultural market and is noted for its olive oil. The Spanish under Charles Bourbon defeated the Austrians there in 1734 during the War of the Polish Succession. The Apulian Romanesque cathedral (12th–13th cent.) is especially remarkable for its fine sculptures.
