(brkh´tsgä´´dn) (KEY) , town (1994 pop. 8,050), Bavaria, SE Germany, in the Bavarian Alps. It is a popular winter and summer resort. Salt has been mined there since the 12th cent. At the nearby Obersalzberg is the site of Hitler’s residence, the Berghof.
