Benguela
 
 
(bng, bng–) (KEY) , city (1983 est. pop. 155,000), W Angola, on the Atlantic. It is a rail terminus, export point, and commercial, fishing, and adminstrative center. A fort was built there in the late 16th cent., and the city was founded in 1617. Benguela’s port played an important role in slave trading.
