Baasha
 
 
(b´sh) (KEY) , king of Israel (c.900–877 B.C.). He made himself king by the murder of King Nadab and the royal family. His reign as king of the schismatic northern kingdom is assessed negatively in 1 Kings and 2 Chronicles. He fought against Asa of Judah, who won with the aid of Benhadad of Syria. Baasha was succeeded by his son Elah.
