(äsh´yä) (KEY) , city (1990 pop. 87,528), Hyogo prefecture, W central Honshu, Japan, on Osaka Bay. Known for its beauty, Ashiya is a residential and industrial suburb of Osaka. It is the site of Ashiya Univ., a small, independent liberal arts school.
