Aleandro, Girolamo
 
 
(jrô´läm älän´dr) (KEY) , 1480–1542, Italian scholar, cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He is also called Hieronymus Aleander. A principal in the Lutheran crisis, he obtained the condemnation of Martin Luther at the Diet of Worms (1521), and he made an outline of policy for the Counter Reformation. His grandnephew Girolamo Aleandro, the younger, 1574–1649, was a humanist, known for his antiquarian studies.
