Aasiaat
 
 
(äs´ät´´) (KEY) , formerly Egedesminde (´gthsmn´´) (KEY) , town (1996 pop. 3,039), Aasiaat dist., W Greenland, at the mouth of Disko Bay. It is the fourth largest town in Greenland. It was founded in 1759 and named for Hans Egede, a Norwegian missionary. A large shrimp-canning factory is there.
