PRONUNCIATION:  lm
A city of southern Germany on the Danube River southeast of Stuttgart. First mentioned in 854, it was later a free imperial city and reached the height of its influence in the 15th century. Napoleon defeated Austrian troops here in October 1805. Population: 114,839.
