INTRANSITIVE VERB: To take part in a trial performance: auditioned for the role and got it.
TRANSITIVE VERB: To evaluate (a person) in a trial performance.
ETYMOLOGY:Latin audti, audtin-, from audtus, past participle of audre, to hear. See au- in Appendix I.
