ETYMOLOGY:Middle English, from Medieval Latin quinanciaOld French quinancie, both from Greek kunankh, dog quinsy, dog-collar : kun, kun-, dog; see kwon- in Appendix I + ankhein, to squeeze; see angh- in Appendix I.
