NOUN: An antidote against poison, especially a confection formerly held to be an antidote to all poisons.
ETYMOLOGY:Medieval Latin mithridtum, alteration of Late Latin mithridtum, from Latin, neuter of Mithridtus, of Mithridates, from Greek mithridteios, after Mithridates VI, who is said to have acquired tolerance for poison.
