Humility
By Richard Monckton Milnes, Lord Houghton (1809–1885)

TO me men are for what they are,
They wear no masks with me.
I never sickened at the jar
Of ill-tuned flattery;
I never mourned affection lent        5
In folly or in blindness;—
The kindness that on me is spent
Is pure, unasking kindness.
