II. Unacknowledged and Uncollected Translations. A Neapolitan Canzonet

ONE morning, on the sea-shore as I strayed,

My heart dropped in the sand beside the sea;

I asked of yonder mariners, who said

They saw it in thy bosom,—worn by thee.

And I am come to seek that heart of mine,

For I have none, and thou, alas, hast two;

If this be so, dost know what thou shalt do?—

Still keep my heart, and give me, give me thine.
