James Wood, comp.  Dictionary of Quotations.  1899.

Kossuth

Expediency is the science of exigencies.  1
Liberty is a principle; its community is its security; exclusiveness is its doom.  2
No man can force the harp of his own individuality into the people’s heart; but every man may play upon the chords of the people’s heart, who draws his inspiration from the people’s instinct.  3
The instinctive feeling of a great people is often wiser than the wisest men.  4
The protection of God cannot without sacrilege be invoked but in behalf of justice and right.  5
