Beauty

By George Reston Malloch (1875–1953)

(From Poems and Lyrics, 1917)

BEAUTY unattempted,
  She was my lover:
To me, too blessêd,
  Her white limbs did uncover.

Eyes had fill of rapture,        5
  Lips had lips to kiss;
Sought I to capture
  The deepest, deepest bliss.

Then the fiery pang
  Smote through heart and core:        10
Then the love song rang
  False, and rose no more.
