Disillusion

Amy Lowell

From “Lacquer Prints”

A SCHOLAR,

Weary of erecting the fragile towers of words,

Went on a pilgrimage to Asama-Yama;

And seeing the force of the fire

Spouting from this mighty mountain,

Hurled himself into its crater

And perished.
