From “City Pastorals” WHEN I look at men, sometimes—
I can hardly tell how it is—
But when I see them,
Walking about,
Doing things,	5
Talking and planning,
So busy, so serious—
(Only children could be,
Only children,
So serious!)—	10
A feeling comes over me as if I were God,
And looked forth from a great distance
On all the humanness of the earth,
Compassionately.
