THEY were my people,
And this country was my country.
 
Deep ravines
Send strange shadows into the valley.
Rock ridges        5
Bulwark returning ferns and flowers.
Rock towers
Watch the invading shadows.
 
Hills mother children.
Hills watch while children sleep.        10
 
Fathomed in coulees,
The spirit water-falls
Say all there is to say.
