Outcast

Louise Ayres Garnett

From “Songs of Silence”

THE WATERS cast him out:

A toppled tower of ivory,

His naked body lies upon the sands—

Nameless,

Beautiful,

Unreachable.

Like a cloudy breath

The Seeking-thing within him

Has gone forth

To claim identity.

I cannot weep as I see him—

Beautiful,

Venturesome,

Stripped and free.
