Rainy Season

Evelyn Scott

From “Tropical Life”

A FLOCK of parrakeets

Hurled itself through the mist;

Harsh wild green

And clamor-tongued,

Through the dim white forest.

They vanished,

And the lips of Silence

Sucked at the roots of life.
