Message to a Perfidious Soldier
By D. H. Lawrence

From “War Films”

        IF you meet my young man,
                Greet him from me;
        Touch him on the shoulder,
                And tell him from me
The moon is not any warmer, the sun no colder.        5

        If he understands
                You will know by his eyes.
        If he only stands
                And stares in surprise,
Tell him prayer is stronger than iron, faith makes no demands.        10
