Earth

Louis Gilmore

From “Inventions”

THE EARTH is a moth

Circling about a lamp;

The earth is a cemetery

Of the dead.

The earth is a mother

Rocking a cradle.

The earth is a father

Devouring his children.

The earth is a ghoul

Battening on corpses.

The earth is a garden

Of green trees.

The earth is a pillow

For the head.
