Critical and Biographical Essay by Alfred H. Miles
Samuel Greg (18041877)
SAMUEL GREG (18041877) was born at Manchester, and was educated under Dr. Lant Carpenter at Bristol and at Edinburgh University. He was a mill-owner at Bollington, Macclesfield, where he held services for his work-people. He published Scenes from the Life of Jesus (1854), a prose work, and wrote a few hymns, of which the following are the best. After his death a volume of his addresses was published (1877), for which Dean Stanley wrote a preface.
