William Stanley Braithwaite, ed. (1878–1962). Anthology of Magazine Verse for 1920.

A Forest Rendezvous

THEY said someone was waiting;

And at the trysting oak

Sudden enchanting voices

Leaf-lightly spoke.

Daylong she had been coming,

And all the forest sang

Of beauty: elfin-softly

The bluebells rang.

Nightlong she was in shadow,

She who went away

As the moon does in the silver

Veils of day.

I see no course to follow,

Alas, nor where to find

The silver way she vanished,

Being blind.
