  The endeavor has been to list below all the books of verse, or books about poetry, thus far printed by the poets quoted in this anthology; and then to refer the reader to magazines which first published the quoted poems, and to anthologies which have included them. It has been impossible, however, to note in every case the magazine in which a poem was first printed, the records not being included in the volumes from which they are taken; but we have tried to credit especially certain periodicals which make a specialty of this subject.  2
