Home-coming to Sirmio

Caius Valerius Catullus (84? B.C.–54? B.C.)

PAENE insularum, Sirmio, insularumque
ocelle, quascumque in liquentibus stagnis
marique uasto fert uterque Neptunus;
quam te libenter quamque laetus inuiso,
uix mi ipse credens Thuniam atque Bithunos        5
liquisse campos et uidere te in tuto.
o quid solutis est beatius curis,
cum mens onus reponit, ac peregrino
labore fessi uenimus larem ad nostrum,
desideratoque acquiescimus lecto?        10
hoc est quod unum est pro laboribus tantis.
salue, o uenusta Sirmio, atque hero gaude;
gaudete uosque, o Lydiae lacus undae;
ridete quidquid est domi cachinnorum.
