A Letter to Caecilius

Caius Valerius Catullus (84? B.C.–54? B.C.)

POETAE tenero, meo sodali,
uelim Caecilio, papyre, dicas
Veronam ueniat, Noui relinquens
Comi moenia Lariumque litus.
nam quasdam uolo cogitationes        5
amici accipiat sui meique,
quare si sapiet uiam uorabit,
quamuis candida milies puella
euntem reuocet, manusque collo
ambas iniciens roget morari.        10
quae nunc, si mihi uera nuntiantur,
illum deperit impotente amore.
nam quo tempore legit incohatam
Dindymi dominam, ex eo misellae
ignes interiorem edunt medullam.        15
ignosco tibi, Sapphica puella
musa doctior; est enim uenuste
magna Caecilio incohata mater.
